NSW: Iemma promises more accurate wting lists under new measures
New South Wales Health Minister MORRIS IEMMA says hospital waiting lists will be moreaccurate under changes to data collection.
Mr IEMMA says a review of data from 14 public hospitals between January and March hasfound five of them misrepresented their waiting list data.
He named them as Prince of Wales, Bankstown, St George, St Vincents and Sydney Hospital.
But he says new measures to be introduced immediately will ensure confidence in thewaiting list figures.
The minister says the department will also establish clear, simple guidelines so allstaff involved in waiting list data understand their roles and responsibilities.
Mr IEMMA says the latest waiting lists data shows a drop of more than 2,600 comparedwith March 2002, from 58,007 to 55,324.
He says the number of patients waiting more than 12 months for procedures has droppedby more than 4,000 over the past year to 4,188.
