Vic: Alleged drug lord refused bail
Melbourne millionaire businessman and alleged drugs lord TONY MOKBEL has failed ina bid to regain his freedom.
The Victorian Supreme Court has refused MOKBEL's latest application for bail.
Justice MURRAY KELLAM says there's an unacceptable risk MOKBEL will interfere withwitnesses, otherwise obstruct the course of justice or commit further offences.
However he says 36-year-old MOKBEL can reapply for bail if the Commonwealth does notgo ahead with a committal hearing against him in October.
Lawyers for MOKBEL made their fresh bail application last month following disclosuresa police corruption probe against drug detectives could affect the case.
MOKBEL faces 16 state charges involving allegations he headed a $2 billion drug syndicate.
He is also facing Commonwealth charges of cocaine importation.
