NT: Mother jailed for hiding daughter

DARWIN, Aug 23 AAP - A mother has been jailed by a Family Court judge in Darwin until
she reveals where she has hidden her eight-year-old daughter.

The judge had ordered the Darwin woman, who does not have legal custody of her daughter,
to remain in prison until she discloses the child's whereabouts, a Family Court spokesman
confirmed today.

The woman, who cannot be identified, took the girl from a Darwin house on Thursday
during a supervised access visit.

Family and Community Services, which had supervised the visit, found the mother but
she refused to reveal the girl's whereabouts.

Federal police were called but also failed to find the child.

A court order was obtained and the woman was arrested on Monday.

She appeared in the Family Court before a judge who was video-linked from Brisbane.

The woman refused to give up the child during court appearances on Monday and yesterday.
